Harry Redknapp could be set for a stunning return to the Premier League after the 75-year-old informed Leeds that he would be open to

after he was sacked earlier in February, having been rebuffed by Andoni Iraola, Arne Slot and Carlos Corberan, but Redknapp would be open to taking charge,

for a fourth successive season, and are currently sat in 17th place just one point from the relegation places.

Redknapp has been out of work since 2017 when he was at , but has a wealth of experience in the top-flight having spent time at the helm at Tottenham, Portsmouth, West Ham, QPR and Southampton.

In the absence of a permanent manager, Under-21 boss Michael Skubala has taken over the reins in the interim, but is lacking in experience despite winning a point at home to high-flying Manchester United.

Harry Redknapp is interested in a short-term stint as Leeds boss until the end of the season

Jesse Marsch was sacked as Leeds manager earlier in February with the side in a relegation battle

As such, Redknapp is thought to have volunteered his services in the short-term in a bid to keep the club in the top-flight.

And it would not be without precedent – fellow veteran Neil Warnock, 74, recently came out of retirement to take charge of Huddersfield until the end of the season, and it is thought that Redknapp would take up a similar short-term position.

However, Redknapp – who won the 2018 edition of reality show ‘I’m A Celebrity’ – is not thought to be close to taking over at Elland Road.

Skubala has meanwhile been confirmed as continuing in his stewardship of the senior side for the upcoming games against relegation rivals Everton and Southampton which are sure to decide the club’s fate this campaign.

‘Leeds United can confirm Michael Skubala will continue to lead the men’s first team for the club’s upcoming fixtures,’ the club announced in a recent statement.

‘Paco Gallardo and Chris Armas will carry on supporting Michael, alongside the backroom team already in place.

‘Skubala, Gallardo and Armas have overseen two positive performances over the last week against Manchester United and will lead training ahead of this weekend’s Premier League game against Everton at Goodison Park.’

And Skubala himself has spoken of how much he is enjoying his role, but that he is aware his position is solely a short-term appointment at this time.

He added: ‘I have really enjoyed the experience and the team and staff have responded well.I know I speak for Paco and Chris when I say that it is an honour to be on the touchline at this club.

‘We will continue to work tirelessly to help to push on up the table in the short term, whilst the board focus on the long-term future of the team.’

Redknapp is one of the most experienced managers in England, with 642 games in the Premier League and 237 wins, and lifted the FA Cup with Portsmouth in 2008.

He took Tottenham to the Champions League and was one of the coaches at the club responsible for developing the now retired Welsh legend Gareth Bale into the world class player that left for Real Madrid.
